Decided to try ImageKind for printing some of my artwork.
Shawn McCann recommended it. Met him at the White Bear Lake Open Canvas a couple years ago.

Richeson 75 Still Life
Art Lady Confidential has a post about the Richeson 75 Still Life . One of the entries is from Kennett Square. There are several from NY.
If you ever get the chance to visit Kimberly Wisconsin, a trip to the Jack Richeson Companyis worthwhile. A few years ago they built an addition which houses a gallery, classrooms and art supplies.
One of the treats is to see Jack Richeson's collection. There is about 1/3 of it on display.
Art Lady gets to sit in on some of the workshops that are held there. What an enviable position to be in. Here is one of her works.

Ice cube tray.

Came across this ice cube tray the other day. It has nice straight sides and the bottom is flexible so cubes can easily pop out. I thought it would be perfect to try for resin casting.
And besides, it is orange.
BTW. I did one of those slide shows using www.slide.com. I posted it on the very bottom of the blog. I had it on the side, but it got cropped. Any one else know how to get it to fit on the side?

Bowl on Etsy

Decided to list another item on Etsy
It is a painted small wooden bowl. I use a technique called cissing quite alot using acrylics and rubbing alcohol. There are several layers of color on it as well as several coats of waterbased polyurethane. Looks kind of blue on my screen, but actually is a bit more turquoisey.

Item up on Etsy

Well, I did it. Thought I would just start with one item.
It is a blank journal. The art was commissioned by the Milwaukee YWCA for their Women of Achievement Award banquet invitation. It is called "Come Join the Future".

www.janetnelson.net
Starting up a website. Have got most of the fish loaded into the Greetings From a Planet Named Janet gallery. Was kind of surprised there were so many. I think I got them all --- that are completed.
I still have much to do. The Philly blog has been the push to get this going.
Should have the Etsy shop going soon with some listings. Just getting some good photos and have to look at a few more of the shops to see how they do things.

Chicago trip
Just a quick post about the trip.
Thursday I went to Geneva. They have added quite a bit of new retail space on Third Ave since I was there last. Where there once was an old hospital, there was a new open air shopping courtyard. The buildings and inside the shops were gorgeous. Full of light.
One of the places I had wanted to get to was Verve on Third. They have alot of Sticks furniture, but they also have bright and funky pieces.
Across the street was Cocoon. I thought it was going to be primarily a home decor type of store, but as I was checking out, I over heard a lady mention the upstairs. So I went up there and found lots of personal care type items.
In that new courtyard, I stopped in at the BD Mallon gallery. I talked with the art consultant Pat Carey for quite awhile. She is from Two Rivers, Wisconsin, so we had some things in common.
Take a look at the links I included.

Free card to first 100 bloggers
UPDATE. This particular offer has ended. But watch for another giveaway in the future.

Just in time for
Valentine's Day.
I am about to open an Etsy store. It's not open yet, but it is there waiting for me to get some stuff listed.
I am giving away a cupid fish card to the first 100 bloggers to email me. No purchase required. No obligation. Yes, a free card. Some of you may be familiar with Paul Dorrell giving away copies of his books over a year ago. Thought I would do the same kind of thing.
You can access my email through the view profile link. No purchase required. It is 4x5 printed on Epson matte paper with Ultra Chrome inks and comes with a red envelope.
Of course you will have to send me your mailing address in order for me to send you a card. but dont worry. I will not be selling any names or addresses or emails that I get from this. Just put a yes or note in the email about further notices -- should I ever get that organized. Please include a link to your blog.
Again, yes it is a free card giveaway.

Janet Nelson -- Citizen Blogger
Click the title. A Smile in the Making And in the Inquirer today
This is the good news I alluded to earlier. Please check it out. I just happened to answer a call I found on www.philly.com They wanted people to blog about their New Year's resolution. Well seeing as Dr. John awarded me a doctorate in Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained, I figured I had best put it to use.
Meanwhile. Still in Chicago. I posted about the jaunt to Delafield in the comments on the post below. Yesterday I went to Glen Ellyn and Wheaton. They both had some neat shops. In Glen Ellyn, I was surprised to find two upscale children's shops across the street from each other. The stuff they had and the prices they were asking took me aback.
Found shop in Wheaton with some recycled art. Totes and purses made from macaroni and cheese boxes or fruit juice packs. Some laminated, some wove in that gum wrapper weave we used to do as kids. There were skirts made completely from old men's ties. I was kind of surprised not to find any converted jeans skirts -- you know the kind where you opened the inseam and sewed in a long triangle piece of fabric.
Today I am off to Geneva, IL. It is a touristy area full of shops.

Resin coating board

Will have to make one or the other of these boards in order to coat the paper clay pieces so that if any of the resin drips off the edges, it doesnt pool at the base of the piece. I had made one with the dowel pegs sometime before I moved. I recall finding it when I was unpacking. But cant recall if I kept it or threw it away. Looks like I tossed it.
Hope to have some good news to share soon.

Resin test

Did the resin test today.
Top picture should be the flat candy bar mold. Second should be the ice cube tray. Third is one I had pushed into paper clay and coated.
Well, for this to work, I should have checked out what I could use for molds first, then adjust my art to fit. Second. Pam Spray does not work on the clear plastic as a release. --- While these are not fully cured, you might see that I tried to remove the fairy one from the candy mold and it broke off. It took alot of twisting for the ones from the ice tray to release. I could see a silicone mold working well.
The ice tray ones are cloudy. I do not know if it is because they are still curing or if the Pam spray mixed in as I was trying to get the fish in straight. There is a release spray made for this, but there wasnt any at the Michaels I went to.
Originally I was looking for black glitter for the back, but settled for what I found. There is a resin dye available, but not at Michaels. I think you can add pure pigment. I was looking for something that would just give me an idea of whether or not I wanted to go further with this.
I like how the paper clay one turned out. It can be tinted with a little acrylic paint. The resin coating seems to help clean up the rough look.
So now I guess I had better get to work.
PS Can someone tell me why I am not able to separate my paragraphs? (I am now trying triple spaces to see if I can get a space)
(Okay, I am editing in Edit Html- I am putting spaces between a whole line of (bracket, backslash, div, bracket) that were in between my paragraphs) Seems to have worked.

Change
Still me. Just decided I wanted a light background. Dont appear to have lost anything --- as others warned about.
Update on the fish. After running all over Delaware --- well not quite, but it wouldnt be hard to do -- I found most of the things I needed to try casting resin. I wanted a mold with small rectangle shapes. Ended up with ice cube trays. Tomorrow I will give it a try and let you know how it goes.
